Before stormwater runoff reaches a creek, it usually flows through a system of smaller ditches and drainage pipes. Austin has over 1,100 miles of such systems.  The Local Flood Program evaluates and upgrades these systems to address flooding.

We perform a variety of services related to the design, construction and maintenance of the City’s storm drainage infrastructure including:

  • Evaluation of existing systems,
  • Identification of flooding issues,
  • Investigation of reported flooding, and
  • Design and construction of improvements.

The program also works closely with the Field Operations Division to evaluate the condition and coordinate the maintenance of existing infrastructure.
