The “I Totally Planned This” Holiday Gift Guide
Okay, we’ve all been there. There are so many people in your family, how were you supposed to remember everyone? So, you need a last-minute gift? Easy. Our Austin-local retailers make it look like you planned this weeks ago. Our merch doesn’t scream airport vibes. It screams personality—fun, memorable and definitely not “I forgot until I got through TSA.”
So many options, where to begin? Let’s start over by Gate 5 with the first stop on the nice list: Tyler's Pop-up Shop.
At Tyler's, you can find the cutest festive accessories ranging from ornaments and winter wreaths to Santa Claus and nutcracker earrings. They even sell Christmas gift bags and tags so you can assemble the gift right then and there. The cheeriest local gift of them all? An El Arroyo collectible ornament that reads “Have Yourself A Merry Little Margarita,” which we all have at least one person in mind for.
Next on the list is Austin Vibes by Gate 8, and as the name implies, you can find the bulk of Austin’s event merchandise here. Whether you have a music, grackle, or western lover in mind, they’ve got something. P.S. You can also grab an Austin skyline snow globe and socks in an ornament case as additional stocking stuffers!
Lookin’ for a kids’ gift? Toy Joy & Yummi Joy by Gate 10 is not a place to miss, with limited Christmas editions of household names like Bluey, Pusheen, SpongeBob, Sonny Angels and Hello Kitty. There’s also a great selection of Christmas candy to give them that extra sugar rush if you so please. We’re talking holiday-themed PopUps Lollipops, PEZ Candy Dispensers, Chocolate Reese's Santa, Ribbon Candy, Hot Cocoa Balls, and Gingerbread Cookie Dough Bites. Pro tip: If you had a not-so-well-behaved passenger this year, grab them the Sour Patch Kids “Coal” edition to send a message.
For a quick grab-and-go, the Austin Article across from Gate 18 has a convenient display hosting gifts under $25, featuring fun stocking stuffers like socks from Two Left Feet Sock Co., festive boxed candles with scents like Pine Tree and Peppermint Mocha, small holiday-edition Austin tumbler shot glasses, and Ty Snaps Gingerbread and Reindeer Beanie Boos.
Want a gift for yourself to pass the time while traveling? Book People near Gate 20 can set you up with a merry time. Beyond their selection of renowned books, you can learn to crochet by picking up one of their adorable The Woobles beginner kits. With choices like Lord of the Rings characters, farm animals and a gingerbread man, there’s a knit to be knot for everyone.
Last but definitely not least, Austin Mercantile is serving pink cowgirl energy as always. This store makes fashion fun with finds like a hot pink “Santa, bring me a Cowboy” trucker hat and socks that proudly say, “It’s me, hi, I’m the present, it’s me.” With gifts like these, you’re set to win gifting season with that one friend who matches your country crazy energy. Plus, the ornaments are Texas sized and Texas themed with bluebonnets, cowboy Santa, a cactus planter box, a longhorn skull, the state of Texas and, naturally, an armadillo.
Now, as we said from the start, the goal is to arrive at your destination looking perfectly prepared, even if that gift was a last-minute grab. Lucky for you, our Guest Services team is here to help, offering free holiday gift wrapping for all passengers.
Starting Thursday, December 18, through the 24th, you can visit our festive wrapping station located by Gate 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, and we’ll turn your last-minute find into a ready-to-give surprise.
So don’t worry about landing on anyone’s naughty list. If you’re flying through the Austin Airport with a little extra time (hint-hint, nudge-nudge, arrive 2.5 hours early), you can check off every gift on your list. Happy holidays and safe travels, y’all!
