Industrial Waste Control / Pretreatment

Austin Water's Industrial Waste Pretreatment Program ensures that local, state and federal regulations are met for wastewater discharged into the City's wastewater system. Area businesses must install, operate and maintain pretreatment devices and systems to remove pollutants that could damage the wastewater collection system or interfere with treatment. Examples of these pollutants include heavy metals, fluoride, cyanides, toxic organics and acidic or basic wastes from industrial operations.

Major program elements include reviewing pretreatment designs, issuing permits, performing inspections, collecting samples, reviewing self-monitoring reports and enforcing regulations. We also work with businesses to share expertise and support pollution prevention beyond standard regulatory compliance.

For questions and to schedule appointments for Industrial Waste Pretreatment Plan Review, see the Industrial Waste Plan Review page.
