Tacos, Brisket, Beer & Beyond: AUS Food & Retail 2025 Recap

In 2024, Austin‑Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) sold over 1.1 million tacos. Naturally, the AUS team and locals alike figured we’d beat that record in 2025. Maybe hit 1.5 million tacos if the stars aligned.

Boy oh cowboy, did we blow past that! We wrapped up the year with a record‑breaking 1,754,212 tacos sold, of all flavors and fillings. That’s not just a record; it’s a taco testament. It’s Austin travelers attesting the hype is real every time they choose an airport taco on purpose.

Austin’s unofficial side character, Barbecue (Barb, or BBQ for short)—had a blockbuster year too! Passengers polished off 94,249 pounds of brisket, nearly 47 tons of smoky, slow‑cooked perfection. As one of our marketing reps put it, that’s practically seven elephants’ worth of brisket if that helps you picture it.

And of course, our Austin-local bars kept spirits high in every sense. Hippies & Hops, The Saxon Pub, The Salt Lick BBQ, and plenty of others served over 469,956 beers and 91,320 glasses of wine to travelers throughout the terminal. The Beerdrop alone poured 26,585 beers and 9,111 glasses of wine—keeping travelers alive and well between flights, obviously.

Travelers were loading up on fiber this year, and hey, we’re not judging! JuiceLand blended 216,903 smoothies and 10,641 juices. Jugo added another 52,162 smoothies and 20,500 juices. Berry Austin plopped up 32,146 acai bowls. That’s over 300,000 fresh, fruity drinks fueling early flights and long travel days. We’re proud of those healthy decisions, y’all. Your jet‑lagged body probably thanked you later.

24 Diner stayed true to its reputation as the spot for homestyle comfort. They cracked 86,273 eggs, flipped 26,294 burgers, and poured 27,835 beers for folks who understand that a good meal and a cold drink can fix just about anything. A cozy meal does more for travelers than any neck pillow ever could.

Travelers embraced Austin’s weirdness like sports fans rep their teams during playoffs—but in our case, the players are musicians. 17,411 units of Keep Austin Weird merch found new homes around the world. 6,614 bottles of Music Water were purchased, supporting local artists with every sip. And 6,573 guitar picks were snapped up, because you never know when inspiration will strike—could be when you’re stuck in the middle seat between strangers. Once again, we’re not judging.

From tacos to brisket, smoothies to souvenirs, 2025 was full of appetite and Austinite attitude. And one thing is already loud and clear in 2026: Austin’s food, culture, and creativity aren’t slowing down, so neither are we.

Through our expansion and development program, Journey With AUS, we’re committed not only to giving travelers a true taste of the city we love, but also to creating more opportunities for small, local businesses to leave their mark on travelers from around the world.
