Greetings, Earthlings! Descending upon your world is an experience like none other: A Total Solar Eclipse. On Monday, April 8 at around 1:35 p.m. CT, locals and visitors in the region will be in the path of totality to see an extraordinary show. And as the countdown begins for the event that’s in less than 2 weeks, our city and airport are planning to welcome lots of visitors. On March 3, 2014, British Airways and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) cut the ribbon to celebrate the first-ever transatlantic service from Austin with nonstop flights to London. A decade later, British Airways and AUS reunited for a gate event to celebrate their anniversary and say “cheers” once again!

From flight attendants arriving with their contagious smiles and cowboy hats to speeches from airport and City officials, we were “chuffed” to toast to the past ten years of connecting over 1.25 million customers back and forth across the pond from AUS.

You can’t be the Live Music Capital of the World’s airport without 10-foot-tall guitars towering over travelers as they get into town. “Eight Guitars” is one of the many pièce de résistance of AUS, an art installation strumming with the spirit of the city outside our curbside doors.

But there’s more to this art installation than meets that tired, post-flight eye. These famous guitars sit atop our baggage claim carousels, and are made of fiberglass and decorated with the minds of local creatives.
